About Mozambique
Mozambique, officially known as the Republic of Mozambique, is a country in southeastern Africa bordered by the Indian Ocean, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia to the northwest, Zimbabwe, Swaziland and South Africa. Being so close to South Africa, Mozambique has become super popular and an extremely easy destination to get to and travel in. The climate varies according to area. Inland is cooler than the coast and rainfall higher as the land rises, with most rain between January and March. Hottest and wettest season is October to March. From April to September the coast has warm, mainly dry weather tempered by sea breezes.
Just across the South African boarder and only 5 hrs drive from Durban and 6 hours from Johannesburg, are the beautiful beaches of Ponto Do Ouro and Malangane, where you can swim with dolphins and whale sharks, kiteboard, surf, scuba dive or just chill.
Just north and only a short flight from Johannesburg, is Maputo and the island of Inhaca. Spectacular water, diving and exploring and so close and budget friendly! Further north near Inhambane is the resort area of Tofo Beach. True Blue offer resorts, backpackers, lodges and self catering options right on the beach. Enjoy the tranquility and experience the manta rays, dolphins and whalesharks as well as many other activities. Further north are the amazing beaches and areas of Xai-Xai, Vilanculos, S?o Martino do Bilene and Chonguene, and of course the islands of Pemba and Bazzaruto.
The cuisine is mainly Portuguese with Far Eastern influences. Specialties are peri-peri chicken, Zambezi chicken, shellfish, including Delagoa Bay prawns and matapa which is a sauce of ground peanuts and cassava leaves with rice or wusa (stiff maize porridge).
