Day One:
Morning pick up from your location in Cape Town or surrounds and drive to Betty's Bay along the dramatic coastal route where mountains plummet into the ocean, offering regular sightings of whales breaching during calving season (Sept-Nov). Upon arrival in Betty's Bay, we change into our wetsuit, wax up the boards and head down onto the secluded beach, which offers panoramic views of the area. After a 2 hour lesson, and working up a healthy appetite, we head to Hermanus for lunch at one of the many beachfront restaurants and wander the cliff path for some whale sightings. We continue our journey through the wheat and canola fields to Cape Aghulas, where we stay the night at Cape Aghulas Backpackers. If daylight allows, we will sneak in an evening surf session at the main beach, just a short walk from the backpackers. A delicious South African 'braai' awaits us that evening.
Day Two:
Wake up for an early morning surf lesson, followed by a trip down to the Southern Most tip of Africa. We shop for some lunch goodies and then head across to the picturesque fishing village of Arniston where we spend the rest of the day surfing (improving on the skills learnt in lessons one and two) and picnicking in the dunes. That evening we return to Cape Aghulas Backpackers. Option to have dinner at the backpackers or one of the local restaurants.
Day Three:
After breakfast we head up the coast to the cosy surf village of Victoria Bay. If conditions are favourable, we will head out for a surf session. If not, we will continue up the coast to our next overnight stop, Myoli Beach Lodge, situated right on the sand of a gorgeous piece of coastline. After an evening surf lesson, and watching the sunset, we'll warm up around a bonfire and watch some video analysis of the past 3 days of lessons and sessions.
Day Four:
Morning surf lesson is followed by a day of relaxing on the beach or lazing around at backpackers. Non-surfing related activities can be arranged such as visiting the Elephant Sanctuary or exploring the village of Knysna. For those who have the energy, we head out for an afternoon surf session to practice the skills learnt in the morning lesson. That evening we head into Knysna to watch the sunset from the beautiful Knysna heads and have dinner at one of the local restaurants.
Day Five:
Depart after breakfast for Jeffrey's Bay with a mid-morning coffee break on the rocks overlooking the ocean at Plettenberg Bay. We arrive in Jeffrey's Bay at lunchtime and settle into our rooms on the beach at Island Vibe Backpackers. We head out for an afternoon surf session at Jeffrey's Bay and then enjoy a sunset drink from our balcony. That evening there is an option to stay at the backpackers that offers a vibrant nightlife, surf movies and good food, or head out into town to one of the many local bars and restaurants.
Day Six:
Depending on conditions, we will either surf in Jeffrey's Bay or head to Cape St Franscis (of Endless Summer fame) for a final lesson and surf session. We will return mid-afternoon allowing time for those of you interested in stocking up on surf gear at one of the many surf factory shops or visiting a local surfboard shaper's factory. That evening we will have a final dinner together either at the backpackers or at a restaurant in town.
Day Seven:
Depart Jeffrey's Bay after an optional sunrise surf (condition dependent) and head back to Cape Town with a stop off at the Bloukrans Bridge for those who option to attempt the Highest (216m) Bungee Jump in the world. Drop off's at venues in and around Cape Town early evening. If you wish to continue your travels up the East Coast, you may also choose to disembark the trip at Jeffrey's Bay.
