MAURITIUS Surf information
SOUTH WEST MAURITIUS - In the south western region, is the world class left hand reef ONE EYE. This hollow left hander cooks year round with recommended travel between April to October. The wave is best known for the left, but the right hander opposite can also be a fun and a hollow alternative. Both are super consistent and very rarely crowded. They work well in the south winds that blow cross offshore 80% of the time.
Off the tip of the One Eye reef are three rideable sections, all breaking right. This can be viewed from the tip of the public car park. The inside section is beginner friendly.
L'Ambullant is another lefthander which breaks a little further north of One Eye. It breaks occasionally and needs a big swell.
Tamarin, the wave that put Mauritius on the surfing map, is only a 20 minute drive from One Eye. It only breaks on a north swell caused by cyclones or storms therefore very fickle and may only work one to three times a month. But if you get it good, count yourself lucky and blessed!
SOUTHERN MAURITIUS - The south of the island is one of the best kept secrets in Mauritius. Only recently, a handful of resorts have been built along the south and they are gaining popularity season after season. With a bunch of waves in this area, and no crowds, you are guaranteed a great trip to this wonderful island. Car hire is recommended so you have flexibility and with One Eyes and Tamarin within a 20 and 30 minute drive, you will have a range of choices when it comes to waves on a daily basis. Chat to Greg or Lorrin. They have been there and will let you in on a few secrets which we refuse to publish!!
