FORT DAUPHIN Surf information
SURFING in the SE Madagascar.
Waves in the Area:
The Point – Fun, clean and mellow right hand point break.
Works on all tides, best on low tide, and in South West winds its protected. Flat bottom reef, great for a long board, fish or just fun ripping. Best with a bit of east swell , but gets wrap around swell from SW most of time. Respect the locals, as they are just out having fun, and generally ride waves together often.
Can be a Left off right in certain conditions (when smaller)
Also Big Left slab/ barrel on north side of bay – Only in big swell and more Easterly swells.
Banana Reef- East side. Needs biggish SW swell and North / NE winds.
D- Bar, A- Bar, P-Bar and Rocks
D- Bar – Beach Break best in N/NE winds, and can be hollow and fun.
A- Bar – Beach break – Can have good banks, often cross shore in SW and NE winds/ but can be good still in N and NE wind. Good windsurfing and kiting
P- Bar – Beach break peaks closest to Road. Hollow left and rights on their day. Best in SW winds and Easterly swell, but still picks up SW wrapped swell ( generally smaller than A and D Bar in SW Swell)
Rocks- Right hand shallow, hollow sand bar off the Rocks. Needs v. big SW swell or rather a South swell or with East in it. Off shore and protected from S/SW winds.
May be a good left on other side in big swell with East in it.
Venom Bay – 30 min drive from town by 4x4 Only. Two or 3, A-frame hollow beach break peaks. (World class) Gets bigger the further you go from corner peak.
SW or SE swell. Picks up allot of SW swell, and will often be double the size of other waves in area. Needs the N/ NE wind.
S/SW WIND = Point; P- Bar and Rocks ( maybe A- Bar)
N/NE WIND = Venom Bay; D-Bar, Banana reef( maybe A- Bar)
