Located just off the west coast of North Sumatra in the special province of Aceh is the Banyak Islands. Its close proximity to the mainland allows for easy access to 1 of the finest surfing locations in Indonesia. For the first time in the Banyak Islands it is now possible to be surfing on the same day you arrive in North Sumatra.

In the bay of plenty surrounded by lush tropical rainforest lies "THE SURF HOUSE" the first land based surf-eco house in the Banyaks that provides surfers and non-surfers alike with comfortable accommodation that sits directly in front of a unique 3 wave set up.

The Surf House is an exclusive 8 guest facility providing surf trips that give maximum surf time with all the comforts and freedom that only a land based operation can offer.

The banyaks offer a wide range of surf suitable for all levels, styles and ages. We've had guests ranging from 12 - 65 years old surfing in the Islands, all of them going home with fond memories of perfect un-crowded surf in 1 of the last frontiers.

Due to its northen hemisphere location the Banyaks are blessed with year round surf, trade winds from October to March blow offshore in the bay of plenty. West swell that hits the bay of plenty directly are generated by a combination of Tropical Cyclones in the Indian ocean while being enhanced by lingering swells from the South. 2008/9 ofseason saw back to back swells that ranged from 2 - 6ft.

From April to October winds are variable and usually tend west to south/west late morning making a combination of bay of plenty in the mornings and treasure Island in the afternoon, the chosen spots for optimal surf time. Ground swells from South Africa generate waves that range from 2-10ft with the odd swell reaching 12. When the big swells hit there is no other place to be than the Banyaks!

With several world class waves and a multitude of other fun waves in front and near the house the scene is set for an unforgettable surf trip, during the low season cyclones in the Indian ocean produce a good surf for those who would like an off season trip.

Featuring 150 meters of white sand beach & uninterrupted views of the bay, The surf House mirrors a traditional design that incorporates modern facilities such as western style bathrooms. The open floor design provides adequate space for 2 twin share and 1 quad share rooms.
