Surf Information
Kuilima Point
The only wave that caters to beginners and more experienced surfers. It’s a fun right-hander that breaks close to the point of the hotel. Fun for all abilities but reserved for intermediate to experienced riders on bigger days. Your friends can be drinking beers at Hang 10 while cheering you on in the line up. Ideal swell is 3-6ft (wave face height). North swell best for advanced surfers but breaks all year round with the NE trade swell pushing in.
Stables
A reef with a nice ledgy wave that offers fun rights and lefts that are often hollow. Great for intermediate to advanced surfers. Definitely not a beginner break. A few minutes walk to the west end of Turtle Bay. The ideal swell is a North or North West with 3-8ft faces.
Kawela Bay
Offers lefts (Kawela Bay Lefts) and rights (Pillbox). The lefts break off in the deep of the bay. The rights are a little more treacherous on the point. Usually breaks in bigger surf conditions. Can be quite difficult to find your spot in the lineup. Rip currents can be strong. Located a 15-minute walk to the west end of the resort’s property. Ideal swell is N or NW with 6-10ft faces (but can hold much larger). A great advanced SUP wave too. For advanced surfers ONLY.
Disco’s or Bayview
A fun right-hander set on the East side of Kuilima Point. Located outside of the calm protection of Kuilima Cove on the east side of the hotel. Best conditions are a North to NE swell and Kona winds. A tricky entry out the keyhole of Kuilima Cove that requires timing your paddle between waves, but fun surf for intermediate to advance surfers. Shallow reef!! Takeoff is next to a surge rock, so not for the feint-hearted.
Bagger’s Bali
A left-hander that breaks from 3-20ft faces. It’s the go-to spot in Kona winds during big winter swells. For experts ONLY. Very shallow reef, strong rip current. A 5-10 minute walk east along the property shore.
Nearby Breaks
There are loads of surf spots along the 7-mile miracle of North Shore to the west of the property. Some famous, some just “holes in the wall.” Be sure to check in with the lifeguard to assess conditions before venturing out. To the east is Malaekahana (Goat Island) – a 10-minutes drive that can be fun for all levels, particularly in Kona winds. Malaekahana has a nice beach park and easy rolling waves, but it is a large body of water, so rip currents can be very strong when waves are above head-high. No lifeguard on duty. Know your ability!
