Coastal City, with beaches as far as the eye can see, is a world class spot for the practice of the kite surf, windsurf and surfing.
The fortifications of the old city present a mixture of Portuguese, French and Berber military architecture; their massive aspect gives the city a strange mystical power. The interior is all light and charm: narrow lanes, houses bleached with lime, blue doors, pleasant coffees, peaceful places scented with the aroma of thuya wood rising from the artisan wood shops.
The fortified port, immediately to the south-west of the medina, is not lacking elegance. The fishing nets drape wide on the quays, the boats discharge their catches, craftsmen build traditional boats out of wood and seafood gilds on the barbecues.
The Mogador islands archipelago, in the south-west of the bay, is famous as the habitat of the Eleanor’s falcons that reproduce there in the summer.
Essaouira is a city with a relaxed atmosphere that preserves a real authenticity.
