true blue travel hotel - THE FOREST LODGE

Key information explained

On the wild north-east coast of Madagascar lies a hidden unspoilt place where nature still reigns in undiminished glory – THE MASOALA PENINSULA - MADAGASCAR.
Just as this rugged coastline and dense rainforest once provided protection to the feared Indian Ocean pirates, today it protects an awesome array of natural phenomena – from rainforest to coral reefs, breeding grounds for humpback whales and countless deserted coves, beaches and sacred islands.
The Masoala Peninsula now hosts Madagascar’s newest and largest national park – Parc National Masoala - with three marine reserves, to ensure the preservation of this last eden.
In the past this natural bounty was beyond the reach of all but the pirates. Now the Masoala Forest Lodge provides luxury tented accommodation in the prime location on the peninsula, opening up this enchanted garden for anyone with a love of nature.
The adventure begins in the small town of Maroantsetra, where you board the motorboat for the exciting sea voyage across the Bay d’Antongil to the Masoala Peninsula.
The Forest Lodge is set behind golden beaches in a small clearing in the vast rainforest, at Tampolo.
The tented lodge emphasises the glory of nature by providing all comfort requirements in a minimalist, unobtrusive style.
The five double “African Safari” tents are positioned on thatched wooden decks, behind the hardwood trees lining the shady beaches, providing privacy, with the sea on the doorstep.
The tents are fully netted and furnished, providing the full experience of sleeping under canvas in the wilds, without any of the discomforts associated with camping.
The communal dining and social area is a traditional Malagasy structure of wood and palm thatch, overlooking the sea.
The catering is of wholesome “Swiss–Malagasy rainforest-cuisine”, specialising in the fresh local produce and seafood.
The bathroom facilities are discreetly located in traditional Malagasy forest huts, equipped to a modern European standard.
Once comfortably ensconced in the lodge, the choice of activity is yours. Besides guided forest walks with game and bird watching by day or night, there is guided sea kayaking, snorkelling, whale watching and fishing.
